Jeri Navin
My name is Jeri and my brother John is missing.
The efforts I have put forth, along with my family and my brother’s friends, to find out what happened to him is overwhelming and unbelievable. No one is prepared for what to do when a loved one goes missing. For me, the key was to enlist the help of my brother’s closest friends, depend on their unique strengths, and do the best I could to get up each day and fight the battle. I am quiet, very organized, I run from conflict, and I back down from bullies. Since my brother went missing, I am evolving into someone completely different.
I feel fortunate that I kept a timeline of events that is now essentially a diary. I received little help from the US authorities. After numerous attempts to contact the special agent in charge of my brother’s case, I foolishly showed up at her office hoping to speak with her or another agent. That is generally frowned upon and not very cost effective if you take an Uber. Since I did not have an appointment, I was not even able to get past the first gate.
John Lee and I met through a mutual acquaintance. Our meetings have always been for short stints, either in his home or on his lovely front porch. We had an immediate connection and over the past few months have become good friends. I usually leave our meetings with a ton of action items in addition to the free therapy session. After we part, I always leave stronger in my resolve to champion for my brother’s cause.
I am very thankful for all the support I have been shown. Thank you to my family, my friends, my brother’s friends, my co-workers, neighbors, and my attorneys: Tim, Tom, Ashley, Anne, Scott, Mike, Jake, and Philip. Thank you also to my researcher friend with the Scotties, you have taught me well.
Net proceeds from my portion of the book sales will go to charity. Those who know me well, know that once I can take on this project, I will do it well.
Having moved out of my home in order to leave behind a bad marriage, I currently live with my friend in Dripping Springs Texas.
